Faux Coin Bra Covers are perfect for the beginning dancer,
because they are an inexpensive and fast way to make a costume. You
can simply wear the Coin Bra Cover over a bra or a cholli. For a more
finished look, you can attach the Coin Bra cover to a bra. The trick
is getting the right bra. You will need a bra with enough substance
to support you and the weight of the coins. Though these coins are
a lot lighter than real coins, they are still heavy enough to collapse a bra.
Do not worry, as long as there is enough padding to make the bra look
good, while you are wearing it. I like to choose a bra that has a fabric,
one that does not give the appearance of underwear. And I prefer a
dark color, like black, so the coins really stand out.
.
As you can see, this bra really doesn't work well with the shape of this
Coin Bra Cover.
This black sequin bra is both a better shape and will provide a nice background
fabric.
To start attaching, first I pin the cover in place with safety pins along
the top edge of the bra. Then I sew it in place with beading thread
or double doubled (four thickness) regular thread for strength. Often
you do not need to sew the bottom of the Coin Bra Cover, because it hangs
nicely in place. Plus being loose allows the coins to jingle even
more.
The Bra has elastic bra straps that just happened to be the right width
to weave through the wide straps on the Coin Bra Cover. This is not
always the case, many Coin Bra Covers only have chain, which you can decide
to sew onto the straps or cut of the chain off. Since this bra had the
elastic strap I chose to cut off the adjustment hardware from the back of
the strap, so it would look less like underwear. I also tacked the coin
strap in place so it would not fall forward on the strap.
The sided of the Coin Bra Cover did not match well with the bra, so I chose
to cut them off. Do not discard these peices. The unused parts
can be made into matching accessaries for your costume.
All finished and ready to dance!
You can also accent your new coin bra with a coin necklace. It can
be worn in the traditional way (left).
Or it can be attached to the bra and worn as a tummy drape (right).
