Volume 4, Issue 4

Fall my time of Catching Up and Change

Changes, Lots of Changes

Every year about this time I go into what I used to call hibernation.  My vending year is over and so is my traveling.  I unpack the bags of merchandise, take stock, and make plans for the next year.  I don't travel as much as many of my fellow venders, but I do try to attend at least two events, that I do not have a hand in sponsoring.   This means I vend at 3 to 4 events a year.  I would love to go to more, but I can't be away from my internet business that long.  This is the down side of being a One Woman Business.  The web site is my money maker and it takes priority.

This Fall we have an added adventure, Bill and I plan to get the house ready for sale.  We have been piddling at it since March, but it is now time to get serious.  As we looked around our 1800 sq. ft. house, we realized we had A LOT to do.  I had been packing the occasional box, but now I kicked it into high gear.  Sorting through over 20 years of 'STUFF' takes a lot of time.  What do you keep, what do you sell, what do you donate to charity, and what do you send to the kids?  We have all our stuff, plus tons of stuff that we inherited.  We are both ex Flea Marketers, so we see value in most everything.  The time has come to 'cut the cord' and sell or donate a lot of our treasures.  I packed 20 boxes, before I could see a dent in 'The Stuff."

Added to the adventure of going through all our Stuff is making the house sale able.  Most of our colorful rooms would have to go.  They would need to be toned way down, so the house would appeal to more buyers.  I could not do speculation white, so we chose beige and cream.  As is, it was almost sad when the chocolate and red room changed to cream.  Yes, there was a room that was chocolate with a lipstick red accent wall.  It was warm, elegant and gorgeous-- now it is cream.  So sad.  Next to fall was the turquoise master bedroom and orchid master bath.  They went beige.  Actually the shade of beige, "Regal", turned out to set a very romantic tone, like candlelight.

Changes in Boomtown corporate policies regarding the Poker Room, where Bill works, cut into our finances.  Not to worry we just kicked up our selling on ebay a notch, by opening an ebay store.  The store is called "Designs by Janie", of course.  Thanks to my dear friend Pam who owns Shimmy Bliss for giving me such good advice.  I also did a lot of reading.  So now Designs by Janie has an ebay store, as well as, a web site store, and of course the shop.  I soon found out that it is much the same as opening your second 'brick and mortar' store.  Busy, Busy, Busy.

Other changes have been the new Fashion line, for times when you are not in costume and the Virtual Yard Sale.  The Yard Sale is the section of the web site where you can buy discontinued items, samples, and what have you.  It changes all the time, so please check it out often.  The most surprising thing is I am doing all this, without spending a lot of money, because I am using what I have in my extensive stash.  The stash has to be thinned out too.

Oh Yeah, here is the big change to Janie's Oasis -- the new Ezine look.  After much discussion with big fans of the Oasis, I agreed it was time for a change.  The original paper newsletter looked much like the Oasis has look for the last 4 years, just a scroll down of articles.  I could have waited until the fist issue of the fifth year, but I said, "No time like the present" and plunged in.  My geek son said, "You can do it."  So heart in hand, here is the first issue of the new format.

The next issue starts the FIFTH YEAR of Janie's Oasis as an on line newsletter and now an Ezine.  Volume 5, Issue 1 will be out after Rakkasah.
